Class Announcements (Spring 2001)

(5/7) There will be a review session on Tuesday (tomorrow) from 2:30-4 in room 626 of the CU-Denver Building (where my office is located).
(5/1) The final exam is next Wednesday at 2:30 (2 hour exam). There will be 10 questions. Four questions on the material we have covered in Chaps. 6, 10 and 12 will be required. The remaining 6 questions can be chosen from a list of about 12 questions which will be drawn from past quizzes, exams and homeworks (covering the entire semester's work). If you want your exam and final grade mailed to you, bring a self-addressed and stamped envelope to the exam. Otherwise, you can pick up your exam from me at the start of the Fall semester (or if you can catch me during the summer).
Contrary to what I said in class today, I will be available for questions on Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday next week. There is a possibility of doing a problem session on Tuesday afternoon ... let me know if you are interested.
(4/30) The last quiz is now posted on the web. You have until Thursday morning to complete it. If done by Tuesday night, I will try to have it back by class time.
(4/24) Again, everyone should take today's quiz on the web. It is now ready. Those that I receive before Monday I will be able to grade and return on Monday.

(4/17) There will be a quiz on Wednesday (4/18). It will cover the material in 6.1 on eulerian graphs.
(4/13) Due to our snow day, I have pushed all the homework assignment due dates back. Exams and everything else I had to grade will be returned on Monday.
(4/4) The exam on Monday (4/9) will be held in our OLD ROOM in North Classroom. The sections to be covered are 3.3-3.6, 4.1-4.5 and 5.1-5.2. Also, please return the last quiz so that I can record the grades, if you have not already done so.
(4/2) The exam scheduled for Wednesday (4/4) has been postponed to Monday (4/9). The coverage will be the same. Chap 3, 4 and 5(up to and including 5.2). There will be 5 questions, one will be a definitions question, and there will be at most one proof. Other questions will involve algorithms talked about in class.
(3/17) Homework assignments for the rest of the term are now posted. Also there is a revised syllabus time table. I am still working on getting the homework solutions posted correctly, this is taking more time than anticipated.
(3/17) Revised rules for homework points.
- Each assignment now has a due date. Any correct submissions received by the due date will be credited (you no longer have to have the first correct submission).
- I will post the correct solutions after the due date.
- There is a cap of 25 points you can earn for submitting correct homework solutions. This cap does not apply to proofs.
- If I receive an incorrect solution, I will let you know as soon as I can so that you can resubmit if you like. There is no penalty for incorrect solutions.
(3/12) Due to the fact that we are way behind the syllabus, I will be modifying some of the course coverage. At present, we will be skipping section 4.6 and the second exam will cover Chapters 3,4 and 5 (and not 4,5 and 6 as indicated on the syllabus). There will be more changes of this nature in the weeks to come.
(3/12) The quiz on Wednesday will be concerned with DFS.
(3/12) There are changes to the rules for getting points on homeworks which will be posted soon. In particular, there is a limit (25 points) to how many points can be generated this way on regular homework assignments, but no limit on homework assignments which involve proofs. More about this later.
(3/7) The date of the final on the syllabus has been changed to 5/9 (Wednesday instead of Monday) and is 2 hours long.
(3/6) Rules for getting points for homework assignments.
- Any homework problem that has been assigned for which a solution is not posted can be turned in for consideration. (The questions without solutions will be posted asap.)
- The first correct solution to a problem that I receive will be posted with the name of the solver. The solver will get 5 points added to the quiz/homework grade unless the problem was a proof, in which case the 5 points get added to the exam grade total.
- You may hand in a solution to me (or my mailbox in the Math Department Office) or e-mail the solution to me. It need not be in any special format (although sending me html will make my life easier). If you are e-mailing me an image file (.gif or .jpeg - anything else you should talk to me first) it should be attached to an e-mail message.
- After a couple of weeks, problems which have not been solved will be collected from the entire class (and graded). I will announce this beforehand.
- You may submit as many problems as you like, as often as you like. Until I get a correct solution and post it, I will correct and return these. After a solution is posted, I will just return them.
(3/5) There will be no quiz on Wednesday (3/7), you should be working on resubmitting the exam (due next week).
(2/7) There will be no quiz next Wednesday (2/14), instead I will collect the following homework problems:

pg 67: 2.3.26
pg 73: 2.4.10
pg 80: 2.5.11
pg 91: 3.1.11 and 3.1.14
