Take a Quiz Late

Here are the ground rules for taking a quiz electronically:

• If you have missed a quiz taken in class, you may take it via the Web at any time until the corrected quiz is returned to the class. (You may request that I not hand back a quiz until you've had a chance to take it, by phone or e-mail).
• You are only allowed to take the quiz if you have missed it in class.
• You will have 15 minutes to take the quiz (starting and ending times are recorded), taking longer than that will incur grade point penalties.
• Once you have requested a quiz, you may not abort it and expect to be able to take it again.
• Quizzes will be graded and returned to you in the next class period provided I have enough time to process it.

Cautions

• The quiz sent to your viewer will usually have graphics imbedded in it, so a browser that supports graphics is highly reccommended. However, alternate text versions are provided for text only browsers. These are written in a kind of "pigeon TEX" which should be understandable even without knowing the TEX language.
• Trying to write mathematics on a computer is very difficult. In your responses to the questions you will often have to resort to writing things out in words. Subscripts ,Superscripts and Summations can be handled with the following conventions:
  • Superscripts: Use the carat ("^") to indicate powers. I.e., "x²" can be written as "x^2" and "x^2n-1" can be written as "x^{2n-1}". Note the use of braces (or parentheses) to clarify the meaning.
  • Subscripts: Use the underscore ("_") to indicate subscripts. I.e., "a₀" can be written as "a_0", "(s₃)²" can be written as "{s_3}^2", "r_{t² + 1}" can be written as "r_{t^2 + 1}".
  • Summations: "The sum of f(i) from i = 0 to i = 10" can be shorthanded to "sum from {i = 0} to {10} f(i)".
• Additional symbols with their abbreviations will appear on the left (or the next screen).
• The sample quiz may be taken by anyone with a password at any time.
