Math 2000 - Assignment 4

Spring 2001

Due February 15

Do not wait until the last minute to start the assignment! It’s best to get an early start and work on it in several steps. Do not hesitate to ask for help before the assignment is due! Office hours are on Tuesdays and Thursdays immediately before and after class in Science 132 or by arrangement. Email also works at wbriggs@math.cudenver.edu.

A. If you would like a quick review of the history of numbers, please read Unit 4A (it’s optional). But please read Unit 4B thoroughly. It’s surely one of the most important units of the book and it carries some of the best lessons of the course.

B. Please do the following problems from the book. Remember to show your work and please write clearly!

Unit 4B: 4c, 7c, 8c, 10d, 16a, 16b, 24a, 32b.

Just For Fun:

1.            Reuben says, “Two days ago I was 20 years old. Later next year I will be 23 years old.” How is this possible?

2.         “I am the brother of the blind fiddler, but brothers I have none.” How can this be?
