We will finish our study of probability with several interesting and related topics: risk assessment, law of averages, gambler's fallacy, expected values, and coincidence. Please read Units 8C, 8D, and 8E. Then do the following problems.

1. Write a one paragraph (minimum) "essay" on a particular story in the news that involves mathematics. Explain the role of mathematics in the story and evaluate the reporting of the story. Be sure to attach the article that you cite.

3. Unit 8E ---- 6, 8, 13.


Just For Fun

Several photographers leave their camp looking for a bear. They walk 15 miles due south, 15 miles due west and sight a bear. They walk another 15 miles to return to their camp. What color is the bear? Why?
