The remainder of the course will be devoted to selected topics, which can be of your choosing. Please read Unit 10B which is a short section on the connections between mathematics and music. Then do the following problems

1. Write a short (1-2 paragraph) "essay" on an issue in the news that has a mathematical or quantitative component. Attach at least one article from a newspaper or news magazine that covers the issue.

2. Unit 10B --- 2, 4, 6.


Just For Fun

A woman is traveling with a wolf, a goose and a mouse. She must cross a river in a boat that will hold only herself and one other animal. If left to themselves, the wolf will eat the goose, and the goose will eat the mouse. How many crossings are required to get all four creatures across the river alive?
