\
Instructor: Jan Mandel
Time: MW 6:55--8:10 PM
The objective of the class is to present the Finite Element Method
from a rigorous mathematical perspective. The class will cover the necessary
mathematical tools. The only prerequisite is Advanced Calculus
so the course
is suitable for beginning as well as advanced Math graduate students
and for Engineering students who are interested in proofs.
- Lebesgue integration
- Weak derivatives and distributions
- Sobolev spaces
- Elliptic partial differential equations and weak solutions
- Finite element spaces and approximation
- Basic finite element estimates for elliptic problems
- Multigrid methods
