Planar Ternary Rings

Faun Doherty

Fall, 1997

This will comprise a brief look at planar ternary rings. Will we begin with the idea of the coordinatization of an affine plane, introducing a coordinatizing set. We will then define a ternary operation and give the conditions that make this set and operation together a planar ternary ring. Addition and multiplication will be defined, as well as Veblen-Wedderburn systems. Examples and theorems will be given and proved along the way, ending with an example of a non-Desarguesian projective plane of order 9.
