Math 5610: Computational Biology
Student Presentations
Each student in Math 5610 is required to give a 5 minute presentation
on some topic related to Computational Biology. The purpose of
your presentation is to learn at least one aspect of Computational
Biology in greater depth than will be covered in class. A second
purpose is to nurture your oral communication skills.
Visual Aids: You may
either use overhead transparencies or powerpoint or pdf slides.
If you use powerpoint or pdf, you must email your presentation in
advance so that I can load it on my computer.
Dates: Talks will be
scheduled April 19--May 5. Please email me your preferred
date. I will schedule these on a first come first served basis,
with at most 4 student talks in any class period.
Topics: Your topic for
this presentation should be different than your term project.
Here some suggested topics.
Youre presentation should describe the topic and how it relates to
computational biology. Please tell me as soon as possible what
topic you intend to present.
- Signal transduction
- Gene Expression array technology
- Single Nucleotide Polymorphisms
- Protein fingerprinting
- Phylogenetic footprinting
- Stoichiometry
- Alternative splicing
- Expressed sequence tags
- Haplotypes
- Oxygen transporting proteins
- Enzymes
- Drug design
- Polymerase chain reaction
- Cloning
- Motor proteins
- Gene regulation and signaling
- Linkage analysis
- Mass spectrometry
- others of your choosing (must get instructor approval).
