PREREQUISITE:
MATH 2411 (Analytical Geometry and Calculus II) and MATH 3191 (Applied
Linear Algebra)
The course will require strong knowledge in calculus, a basic knowledge
of linear algebra, and familiarity with the complex plane. A brief review
will be presented if necessary.

TEXTBOOK:
M.L. Abell and J.P. Braselton, Modern Differential Equations: Theory, Applications,
Technology, 1st Edition (1996) Saunders College Publishing, Harcourt Brace
College Publishers.
SUBJECT:
Systematic introduction to ordinary differential equations. Applications
will be covered if time allows, but will not be in the tests.
GOALS:
Students will learn most classical methods
for solving ODE's and systems of the standard types.
CONTENTS:
The class will follow the outline below, touching on each major topic in
a depth that will be determined by the pace of the class.
GRADING:
Tests 1, 2, 3 - 20% each, Quizzes 1,2,3 - 5% each, Final - 20%, Homeworks
- 5%.
Each problem graded on the scale:
A=4 perfect, 3=B=OK, something little wrong, 2=C something substantial
missing or wrong, 1=D still some small progress, 0=F no credit.
Extra credit will be given for problems solved on board in the class. Every
homework problem carries the same weight toward the homework share of the
grade. Missed test (with a good justification) can be made up. Tests are
open book in a multiple choice form. No calculators.
Preliminary grades will be distributed during the semester.
Final grades will be announced before the end of the semester.
No quizz make-ups accepted. Exams make-ups only with a very strong justification. All exams are in class. The only materials students are allowed to bring to the exam are writing instruments and erasers with the exeption of specially announced cases. All exams and quizzes are in a multiple choice form.
