Graduate Applied Statistics Certificate


Entrance Requirements

Students are expected to have a bachelor's degree and be admitted to the graduate school as either a degree-seeking or non-degree seeking student. Students are expected to have completed an introductory statistics course (such as MATH 2830 or the equivalent) or an introductory course in probability. At least one semester of calculus and a course containing linear algebra are also recommended.


Curriculum

There are three parts to the requirements (see the Mathematical & Statistical Sciences course catalog for course descriptions):

Required courses:

  1. Basic methods (choose one):
  2. MATH 4830: Applied Statistics
    OR
    MATH 4820/5320: Statistics
  3. Advanced methods (choose two of three):
  4. MATH 5060: Exploratory Data Analysis
    AND/OR
    MATH 5387: Regression Analysis, Modeling & Time Series
    AND/OR
    MATH 5394: Experimental Designs

Electives (choose one):

  1. Any statistics course in the Math Department at the 5000 level or higher
  2. ECON 5150, ECON 5813, ECON 5823
  3. ENVS 5600
  4. GEOG 5770
  5. GEOL 5770
  6. PSY 5713
  7. PSY 6710
  8. SOC 5183
  9. Equivalent course pre-approved by the Certificate Coordinator

Project:

An independent data analysis project with a report and presentation to demonstrate proficiency with data analysis techniques and a statistical computing software package. Enroll for one hour of MATH 5840 or in an equivalent course pre-approved by the Certificate Coordinator.


Grade Requirements

Students must maintain a 3.0 GPA in these courses with no credit given for courses with grades below B-.


Residency Requirements

Since a certificate is a University of Colorado Denver certification of a student's specialized knowledge in an advanced subject area, all courses in the certificate program are expected to be taken in residency at the University of Colorado Denver.
