Sample Ph.D. Programs

The course requirements for the Ph.D. are purposefully flexible, so that many programs can be designed for different areas of research. If you are not sure of your area of interest, here is a sample program (one of many) for the first year that offers a good sampling of several areas within the department. Your plan of study should be designed with the help of your academic advisor and with an eye on the requirements.

Year 1
Fall Semester Spring Semester
MATH 5718 Applied Linear Algebra MATH 5070 Applied Analysis
MATH 5791 Continuous Modeling MATH 5779 Math Clinic
MATH 5310 Probability MATH 5793 Discrete Modeling

If you have an area of interest, the following links provide sample programs (many variations are possible). Still, plan your study with the help of your academic advisor and with an eye on the requirements.
