Three-Dimensional Control-Volume Mixed Finite Element Methods

Control-volume mixed finite element methods (CVMFEM) were introduced
recently by Cai, Jones, McCormick, and Russell. The approach seeks to
obtain accurate fluxes for pressure equations in heterogeneous,
anisotropic media on distorted, logically rectangular grids. In 2-D, the
algebraic equations are relatively simple and represent a discrete Darcy
law. Second-order convergence of fluxes has been found for a variety of
test problems. This presentation describes the extension of the
formulation to 3-D and reports on preliminary computations.
