ABSTRACT: Generation of substructures is an essential step in domain
decomposition-based iterative methods.  Regularity detection and
optimization-based neural net paradigms will be presented for automatic
substructuring of large unstructured finite-element meshes.  Also,
a variational framework will be discussed that allows application
of multilevel methods for efficiently solving image analysis problems.
