Abstract: The talk will focus on issues arising in implementing one iterative solver that must work well within multiple FEA packages and across different platforms. The practical aspects include diverse things such as memory management, data structuring, dealing with sources of ill-conditioning unrelated to problem physics, constraints, machine architecture among others. For a high performance solver where the runtime has to grow slowly with the problem size, every step has the potential of becoming a bottleneck.
