Summary: This symposium will focus on successful applications of iterative solvers in commercial software. Speakers will discuss the types of solvers used in their codes and the factors that impact the successful application of iterative solvers in these codes. Some of these factors include effectiveness of preconditioners, hardware architecture, and resource requirements. The session will seek to encourage interaction between the research community and commercial software developers. Future needs in iterative solver technology and expectations of hardware resources will be discussed.
Purpose: The main purpose is to provide a forum for a discussion of the use of iterative methods in industry. The goal is to bring together university and lab research with industrial code developers.
Audience: It is anticipated that more representatives from the research community than industry will be attending this symposium. But every effort will be made to have several good examples from industry. The use of Iterative solvers in the ANSYS program is extensive and will be well-represented. Other successful uses of iterative solvers in industry are being invited.
